The OU Israel trip to Shem Olam and the cheese factory was more than worthwhile. The museum was not at all what I expected. Instead of talking about overall atrocities, they concentrated on individuals’ experiences which put a light on their personal experience that I had never been exposed to before.
A letter that was found led to analysis of where it might have originated and the circumstances which led up to its creation. The people who worked there were very personable, well informed, and dedicated to informing the next generation of Jewish children about the experience of the holocaust.
The stops at a cheese factory, homemade ice cream store, and a beautiful outdoor turtle sanctuary rounded out a very entertaining and enjoyable trip.
